Endoscopes and boroscopes are compact inspection cameras designed for viewing areas that are difficult to access directly. A small camera head and illuminated probe allow the user to inspect inside cavities, machinery, building components and other restricted spaces without having a direct line of sight.

Endoscopes and Boroscopes for Visual Inspection
An endoscope or borescope uses a small camera positioned at the end of a probe. The probe is inserted through an available opening while the image is displayed on a handheld or separate screen.
This makes it possible to visually inspect internal areas without dismantling the surrounding equipment or structure simply to obtain an initial view.
Typical applications include inspecting machinery, cavities, ductwork, building services, pipework and other confined areas where normal visual access is restricted.
Choosing an Endoscope or Boroscope
The most important consideration is whether the camera and probe can reach the area that needs to be inspected.
Camera-head diameter should suit the available opening, while probe length needs to provide enough reach for the inspection. A smaller camera head can be useful for narrow access points, while longer probes allow areas further from the opening to be viewed.
Probe construction also varies between systems. Some models use flexible probes, while others offer articulation that allows the camera head to be directed towards different areas during an inspection.
Before choosing an instrument, consider:

- Probe diameter and length
- Flexible or articulating probe design
- Screen size and image display
- Lighting around the camera head
- Image or video recording where available
- Working environment
- Portability and battery requirements
Flexible and Articulating Inspection Cameras
Flexible endoscopes can be guided through openings and around accessible bends, making them suitable for many general inspection tasks.
Articulating inspection cameras provide additional control over the direction of the camera head. This can be useful when the area of interest is not directly in front of the probe or when different sides of an internal component need to be viewed.
The amount of articulation and the available probe length depend on the individual system, so these specifications should be compared before ordering.
Endoscopes for Building and Industrial Inspection
Endoscopes and boroscopes can be used across building inspection, maintenance, engineering and industrial work.
They may be used to inspect wall cavities, concealed services, machinery, components, ventilation openings and other areas where access is limited.
