A flue analyser draws a sample of gases from a heating appliance or flue and presents the readings on its display. You can use oxygen, carbon monoxide and flue temperature readings to assess how combustion is performing, while calculated values provide a practical view of combustion performance.

Why Use a Professional Flue Gas Analyser?
Live readings support combustion checks when setting up and checking a newly installed boiler, during routine servicing and when adjusting the burner. Oxygen shows how much oxygen remains in the sampled gas, while carbon monoxide gives an important indication of combustion quality and burner setting. Flue temperature contributes to calculated performance values, and draught shows the pressure conditions in the flue where that function is supported. Selected configurations also measure nitric oxide when that reading is required.

What Features Are Available in a Flue Gas Analyser?
Functions vary between compact portable units and larger professional or industrial configurations. The main differences relate to measurement capability, sampling equipment, display features and how results are stored or shared.
- Oxygen and carbon-monoxide measurement: These are core readings for checking combustion performance and burner adjustment. Together, they show the composition of the sampled flue gas during initial boiler setup and servicing.
- Optional nitric oxide measurement: Selected configurations add nitric oxide measurement for work where this gas needs to be recorded. It is not included on every instrument.
- Different carbon-monoxide measuring ranges: The suitable range depends on the expected gas level and the type of heating or industrial work involved. Higher-range configurations suit applications where standard heating measurements are not sufficient.
- Flue temperature, draught and calculated combustion values: Supported instruments use measured information and the selected fuel setting to provide values such as efficiency, excess air and flue-gas loss. Draught measurement also shows pressure conditions within the flue where available.
- Colour displays, portable construction and sampling probes: Clear colour interfaces make readings easier to review during testing, while portable housings suit work across different sites. Probe and hose arrangements differ according to the supplied configuration.
- Storage, data transfer and printing options: Some instruments store test records or transfer results for later reporting. Printing functions are available only where the selected configuration supports them.
How Does a Flue Gas Analyser Work?
Before sampling, you start the instrument in clean air according to its operating guidance. You then place the probe at a suitable flue sampling point and allow the readings to stabilise. From there, the combustion gas analyser displays the measured gases and temperature, together with calculated values supported by the selected setup.
When setting up or servicing a boiler, you use the displayed information to assess combustion and make burner adjustments where required. Stored records, transferred data or printed results support documentation when those functions are included. Routine care also includes checking the probe, filter and condensate system so the sampling path remains clean and ready for the next test.
Where Are Flue Gas Analysers Used?
A portable flue gas analyser suits work on domestic and commercial oil, gas and suitable solid-fuel heating systems. Typical tasks include initial boiler setup, routine servicing, burner adjustment, plant-room checks and confirming combustion performance after maintenance. You can also compare readings before and after adjustments when the instrument configuration matches the appliance and fuel.
Some applications require higher carbon-monoxide capability or equipment intended for more demanding industrial sampling. These configurations suit different gas levels, sampling conditions or reporting needs rather than ordinary boiler checks alone.
