No single item of distance measuring equipment suits every surface, target, route or monitoring programme. Construction measuring tools should match the required result, access and reference points before range, display or additional functions are considered. A high stated range does not make a method suitable when the target is unclear, or the route is curved. Repeat monitoring requires consistent reference positions so readings remain comparable.

What Can Distance Measuring Equipment Record?

Electronic equipment is not automatically more suitable or accurate than a manual method with clear contact points. Worn graduations, damaged fittings, movement, temperature effects, wheel slip and changed references may affect results, although factors vary by method.
